How to Easily Chop an Onion

Okay, I know that this is very simple, any many of you probably already know how to do this, or how to cut an onion even more efficiently, but for a long time it took me forever to chop up an onion.  So I thought I would share this to maybe help any newbie home cooks out there who want to become more efficient with their veggie prep work.
1.  First you need to trim off both ends of your onion and stand it up on one of the ends.  Then you slice it in half.

2.  Now, place the onion down on it's flat sides and cut it into strips lengthwise, while holding it together on each side.
 3.  Now you just cut the onion into strips again going width-wise, and Presto!  You have a chopped onion.  If you want your onion chopped finer, or minced, just cut the strips closer together.

  2. I cut my onions on the counter next to the stove. I run the exhaust fan while I'm chopping, I find it helps reduce the tears.
