Local Deals!

Today I went to Rural King in Mattoon, IL to get some food for my dog and I saw that they have Pie Pumpkins for only $1 each.  I picked up the two good-sized beauties in the picture.  This is really an awesome price compared with buying pumpkin puree from the store.  You can make your own pumpkin puree and freeze it much more economically than buying canned.  We love having Pumpkin bread so I like to stock up when I can find a great deal on pie pumpkins.  I'll show you probably next week how you can make your own pumpkin puree from pie pumpkins- once I get around to actually doing it.  Keep your eyes out at your local store for great clearance deals on pie pumpkins and squash here after Halloween.  They might not actually clearance them until after Thanksgiving though.  Pumpkins and squash should actually keep for months if you can store them in a cool, dry place.

When I was at Walmart earlier today, I saw that they have all the Hidden Valley Ranch salad kits (these don't actually contain any salad) on clearance for only .75 each.  (my store sure doesn't wait around long if stuff isn't selling, I only saw these for the first time about 2 weeks ago!)  There is a printable coupon here for $1 off.  Use it, and get the salad kits for free!  I would never pay the original $2.50 price for these, but for free, these might be good for dressing up a couple salads!  The Mattoon, IL Walmart has their clearance food in the canned vegetable aisle.

  1. Hey Anna! :)
What's the difference between a pie pumpkin and a regular pumpkin??? I didn't even know that there WAS a difference!!!
Thanks for visiting "Mrs. No-No Knows"! I am now following you back! :) Hope you will stop back often and put in your two cents.

  2. Ok, I knew there was a difference but I did have to google it :) A regular pumpkin has been bread in a certain way to make them good for Jack-O-Lanterns, but as a result their flesh is usually watery and tasteless. A pie pumpkin, is smaller more dense and has more flavor.
